    GT4Pebbles

Unraveling the Formation of Pebbles with Models Based on a Revolutionary Experimental Setup

GT4Pebbles

GT4Pebbles is a research group exploring the formation of pebbles in planet-forming disks, using a new generation of numerical models based on a unique experimental setup. Members of the group are affiliated with the the University of Amsterdam, and the Technical University Braunschweig. We are experts on dust in planet-forming disks, dust aggregation, observations of planet-forming disks and laboratory experiments on dust analogues.

Support

The GT4Pebbles research group is supported by the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme ('GT4Pebbles'; Grant agreement No. 101199769)

Science

In GT4Pebbles We develop laboratory experiments to study the basic physics of aggregations and compaction, and build the obtained results and properties into collisional and aggregation moddels to study the formation of pebble in planet-forming disks.

Outcomes

We publish our results in leading journals, as you can see in the results section. Additionally, GT4Pebbles contributes open-source software to the scientific community that is publicly available through our GitHub page.

Join us!

Prospective postdoctoral researchers: We are happy to support applications for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions and NWO Veni postdoctoral fellowships to be hosted in the GT4Pebbles research group at the University of Amsterdam. To join us at the University of Braunschweig ....... Note that in all cases it is important to reach out to us and start preparing your applications at least a few months in advance of the deadlines. We also occassionally have postdoctoral research positions open.

Prospective MSc/PhD students: The University of Amsterdam offers a two-year MSc Physics and Astronomy with one year of full-time MSc thesis research. We typically supervise multiple MSc projects each year. For PhD positions at the University of Amsterdam, see the UvA/API PhD recruitment process.

Bachelor/undergraduate students: You can write your thesis in our group; for UvA/API BSc students see bachelor projects.

Summer research opportunities: Consider applying to the UvA/API's ASPIRE program or ASTRON/JIVE's Summer Research Programme for funded summer research positions.
